Read More	Obituary Helen Leola Meredith, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Meredith was born on a farm southeast of Hiawatha, November 19, 1899, died in a hospital in Topeka on the morning of July 6, 1924, having attained the age of 24 years, 7 months, 17 days. She had been taken to the hospital for an appendicitis operation, some 2 weeks before, was apparently recovering splendidly, was happily preparing to return home, when on the very day she was to leave the hospital, she was suddenly stricken, in a few moments, she was gone, a blood clot having formed, causing death. Helen was always a cheerful, happy girl who made many friends wherever she went. She was converted, united with the Methodist church at Claytonville where she was a helpful member in Sunday school, church work, later transferring her membership to the Methodist church in Hiawatha, where she was a most faithful member. She was faithful to her church work in Topeka, a constant attendant, singing in the choir of the First Methodist church. She went to Topeka 3 and 1/2 years ago, attending business college, studying music under Prof. Dean, later under Prof. Hinckley, of Kansas City. She was employed as a stenographer for C.H. Bowman Real Estate Co. In Topeka, as elsewhere, she made many friends which was shown by the many beautiful flowers sent for her funeral. Besides her father, mother, Helen leaves to mourn her departure, 1 sister, Mrs. Harry Fuhrken of Topeka, 1 brother, Martin Meredith, of Hiawatha, Roy Brown, of Topeka, an exemplary young man to whom she was to have been married in a few weeks. Her funeral was held in the Methodist church at Hiawatha, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Calvin Holman of Horton officiating, assisted by Rev. Mr. Bolton of Axtell. Mr. and Mrs. Clair Harpster, Miss Nannie Ham, Stanley Moser sang 2 of Helen's favorite hymns, "Jesus is There," and " Gathered Home." Body bearers were Albert Gregg, Stanley Hoar, John Robertson, Leslie Gregg, Ernest Angle, Harvey Weltmer. Burial was made in Hiawatha cemetery.
