Martin MEREDITH, 34, junior member of the contracting firm of Meredith and Sons, who has been associated with his father in business since he was 13 years old, died at 1 o'clock Saturday morning at a hospital in St. Joseph, a blood transfusion failing to save his life. He had been ill of anemia for a year, being bedfast for the last month. He made one trip to the Mayo clinic at Rochester, had intended going back for another examination. Active as few young men are, MEREDITH was a valued friend of virtually everyone in the community. He not only was a member of the Shrine, Eastern Star, all the Masonic bodies, but held a number of offices with distinction, devoting a great deal of his time to the work of lodge organizations as well as the Country Club, the Chamber of Commerce. He began work with his father in the construction company when he was only 13 years old, operating the business himself for the last 4 years. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John MEREDITH; a sister, Mrs. Harry FUHRKEN, of Topeka; a niece, Helen FUHRKEN, Topeka. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. L. L. Hassenpflug in charge, assisted by Rev. J. W. Campbell. When his condition became more serious, Friday afternoon, a request was made at the hospital for services of those who might be called upon to give blood transfusions. The following went to St. Joseph, were typed for that purpose: K. M. Griffith. John Stoddart, Ewing Herbert, Jr., Henry George, Dr. W. H. Stone, Ed Spalding, Mr. and Mrs. George Starrett, Clarence Wolf, Miss Edna Rosenbalm, Raymond Myers, Miss Hazel McCoy, Chester Ingels, Erroll Turnage. It was discovered that most of those examined had the wrong type of blood, but only one transfusion was given, K. M. Griffith being the donor.∼
