She was born August 18, 1921, near Scranton, the daughter of Pheasant and Ora Moore. She graduated from Harveyville High School in 1939. She was born August 18, 1921, near Scranton, the daughter of Pheasant and Ora Moore. She graduated from Harveyville High School in 1939. Mrs. Briggs was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse before helping her husband Raymond on their farm. They farmed in the Burlingame and Harveyville communities most of their lives, and upon retirement from farming in 1991, Helen and her husband moved to the city limits of Burlingame. She was a member of the Burlingame Federated Church, the Merry Matrons, and the Chatty Eaters. Helen was very active in Grange, and she won many awards for her work done with the Grange and in the Grange baking contests. She was a member of the Fairplain Grange, the Burlingame, Osage County Pomona Grange, the Kansas State Grange, and the National Grange. Helen enjoyed spending time visiting with the community members of Burlingame as well as spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching both her grandchildren play sports when they were in high school and then continued to go watch her granddaughter coach volleyball as she was older. Helen also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the K-State Wildcats. Helen married Raymond Briggs on September 28, 1940, in Oskaloosa, Kansas. Survivors include grandchildren, Michelle and Cody Abshire. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Shannon Abshire; her son-in-law, James Abshire; two brothers, Kenneth and John Briggs, her daughter Patricia Abshire, and her husband Raymond. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2021, at Burlingame Federated Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlingame Federated Church, and sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
