Read More	Glasco Sun, Jan. 6, 1927, page 1: HENRY ROGERS GLASCO PIONEER PASSED AWAY To the roll of stalwart pioneers who have passed to their reward, this week must be added the name of Henry Rogers, for the kindly old gentleman, who for the past half century has lived a noble and useful life among us passed away at his home near Glasco early Wednesday morning. Mr. Rogers was quiet and unassuming in his manner, but he had high ideals of life and even when struggling to conquer the problems incident to pioneer life he was ever ready to assist his fellowmen by whatever means necessary even though it meant additional burdens for himself. In his going the community loses a man whose life is most worthy of emulation. Henry Rogers was born Nov. 18, 1850 in Herefordshire, England and died Jan. 5, 1927 at his home near Glasco aged 76 years, 1 month and 18 days. He came to the United States from England in 1869 at the age of 19 years, and lived with his uncle, George Henry George, near Monticello, Iowa for three years learning the ways of the country of his adoption. Another three years was spent working for Joseph Cool in the same community. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Cool July 16, 1876. To this union six children were born, two preceding the father in death, Alma, aged three and Mrs. Rachael Cunningham, less than a year ago, at the age of 45 years. Four children return to mourn his loss: Alfred, Rollo, Ad and Mrs. Emma Ballou all of Glasco. Besides his wife and children he is survived by 18 grand children and 4 great grand children and a host of other relatives and friends. While residing in England he worked as a cabinet maker. Since living in this country his main occupation has been farming. Starting for Kansas soon after being married they were a part of the immigrant party consisting of three covered wagons, driving five head of cattle and 450 sheep and other livestock. The cows were milked to help out the food supply as they camped by the roadside. After seven weeks on the road they arrived in Cloud County and settled on the farm where they have resided for more than 50 years. During this time he has endured the hardships of early pioneer days including prairie fires, drouths and cyclones and has watched the country improve and grow prosperous while neighbors have come and gone. Always with a word of praise for their friend and neighbor left behind. He has always supported the cause of right and justice and has given freely of his time and money for the upbuilding of the community in which he has lived, serving the township as trustee for years, also as a member of the local school board. For the past six weeks he has been a patient sufferer from that most dreaded disease, cancer, his only wish that he might regain his strength enough to continue to minister to his afflicted companion. Loved and respected by all who knew him, we will indeed miss him from among us. Yet will his teachings and principles be handed down to the coming generations and live again in our midst. Funeral services were held at the home this afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Elmer L. Brooks of the Methodist Church. The Pilcher Quartette assisted in the service with several songs. Six nephews of the deceased, Gaylord King, Cool Blake, Joe Cool, Will Olson, and Joe Weaver acted as pall bearers. Interment was in Glasco Cemetery.
