Read More	Glasco Sun, March 22, 1928, page 1: MARY ELIZABETH ROGERS Mary Elizabeth Cool, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cool was born in Herkimer county, New York, May 2, 1852 and died at her home near Glasco, March 17, 1928, aged 75 years, 10 months and 15 days. When but a baby her parents moved to Sand Springs, Iowa. After finishing the common schools she attended school at Hopkinton and the State University of Iowa, later teaching several terms of school. On July 16, 1876 she was united in marriage to Henry Rogers and the latter part of the month they started to Kansas in a covered wagon with a party of immigrants. In September of that year they located on the homestead northeast of Glasco, where they lived continuously for more than 50 years, Mr. Rogers having preceded his wife in death by a little more than a year. Their acquaintances were all friends and all have a warm spot in their hearts for the continuous hospitality of the Rogers' home. Grandma Rogers or Aunt Mayme, as the ones who know her loved best to call her, was an ardent supporter of any movement that was for the upbuilding of the community and worked with the zeal that inspired others to greater effort. She was enthusiastic in the Temperance cause, first in the Good Templar's Lodge and later in the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Her house was always filled with welcome visitors and she was never too tired or too busy to help the sick or needy. She was a great lover of music and flowers, and always the many crowds that gathered there spent hours in music and song. For years her health and strength has gradually waned yet the evidence of friendship has been with her almost continually in the form of flowers. Perhaps no person in the community has had a wider correspondence, which, until last year has kept her in touch with both old and new acquaintances and helped to occupy her time and mind. She has gone to join that faithful companion from whom she was separated only a few months. We will miss her, yet we know she has built for herself a monument that will live after her. Four children remain to mourn her loss, Alfred, Rollo, Ad and Mrs. Emma Ballou, all of Glasco. Two daughters, Alma at the age of 5 and Mrs. Rachael Cunningham preceded her in death. She is also survived by 18 grand children and 5 great grand children, and two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Minnie Blake, Mrs. Hattie Bishop and L. H. Cool beside numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Elmer L. Brooks assisted by the Pilcher Quartette. Relatives of the deceased, Ray Pilcher, Joe Cool, Herman Bates, Herman Rogers, Fenton Blake and Russel Ballou acted as pall bearers. Interment was in the Glasco Cemetery.
