Howard Kansas, Howard Courant April 9, 1945 Ida Alice Thomas was born in Apenuse county, June 5, 1865, and departed this life April 2, 1945, at Newton Memorial Hospital, Winfield, Kansas, at the age of 78 years, 9 month, 18 days. She was the only child of George W. and Ciphronia Thomas. At the age of 12 years, she came with her parents to Kansas and had resided here ever since. In June 1884, at the age of 18, she was united in marriage to Lewis M. Myers. To this union were born seven children, two preceding her in death. Her husband passed away March 31, 1918. Several years ago she obeyed the Gospel under the preaching of Bro. Hood and was faithful member of the Church of Christ, which she attended as long as her health permitted. The surviving relatives are her five children, Mrs. Marion Speer of Winfield; Mrs. H.E. Murphy of Elk Falls,; Mrs. O.W. Campbell and Mrs. Lawrence Munster of Lincoln, California; also one son, Alpha Myers, of Oakland, California. She also leaves 22 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren; one half-sister, Mrs. Eliza Templer, and a number of other relatives and friends. After her husband's death, she moved to Howard, making her home here until the children all married and poor health caused her to have to give up her home, and had since lived with her daughters. Her greatest pleasure was going to church. She also loved to sing. Though her eyesight had not been so she could read for some time, she could sing from memory for hours at a time; mostly hymns. Her favorite was "I Will Sing You A Song Of A Beautiful Home." Just a hew hours before she died she sang "Higher Ground." She was a good mother, grandmother and friend, and will be missed by all who knew her. Services were held at the Moon funeral Home, Howard, Kansas, with Rev. Emmett officiating. burial was in the Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard, Kansas.
