The funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 and was one of the most largely attended ever seen in this section. When the procession started for the cemetery there were over ninety automobiles stretched out more than a mile in length. The services were conducted by Rev. M. A. Gable of the Malvern M. E. Church who was a former pastor and a long time friend of the deceased. He was assisted by Rev. C. A. Smith of the Hastings M. E. Church. A special choir, Messrs R. W. Criswell, and H. R. Parker and Mesdames F. R. Chantry and L. A. Talbott sang. Many beautiful flowers testified to the love and esteem in which the deceased was held by all who knew him. The pall bearers were some of his I.O.O.F. brethren, J. A. Hatfield, Ed Hathaway, I. C. VanGorkum, F. H. Priest, Pearl Cary, Gena Crouse, Dr. Edgar Christy, and Everett Purcell. The honorary pall bearers were Fred Martin, George Curtis, June and Howard Dolph, A. J. Swain, N. W. Collings, C. L. Shoemaker, and G. S. Purcell A large number of Odd Fellows from the lodges at Strahan, Hastings, Malvern, and Glenwood were present and formed a line to march to the cemetery. The remains were laid to rest in the Malvern Cemetery where the Odd Fellows had charge and used their beautiful burial ritual. It was in charge of H. H. Cheyney and W. C. Rathke of the Glenwood lodge who made it a very impressive ceremony. Isaac Josiah McFarland was born on the Cary farm north west of Hastings, July 10, 1880. When he was a year old his parents moved to this present home where he grew to manhood. He was married October 22, 1902 to Miss Letha Schurr and to this union one daughter was born. Their daughter Marie, now thirteen years of age, has been a great comfort to the parents especially during the long illness of the father for her presence always radiated sunshine and cheer and she has helped to brighten many a passing hour. The second year of Mr. and Mrs. McFarland's married life was spent on a farm south of Hastings and then they moved to Hastings, where Mr. McFarland engaged in the hardware business with his brother Henry for a couple of years. In January 1905, he joined the I.O.O.F lodge at Hastings of which he was a faithful and consistent member. About eight years ago his health began to fail and he went to Texas to receive permanent relief by a change of climate. After returning hime it was flund that he had not fully recovered so taking his wife and daughter, he died the climate of New Mexico. Here he gradually grew worse and was compelled to return home and for the last four years has been engaged n a losing fight against the dead disease, but with a courage that never failed and a cheerfulness that was constantly manifest, he waited the higher call. During all this time his faithful and devoted wife rarely left his side giving him every care and attention possible until the end came. He experienced the joy and comfort of Salvation over two years go and was baptized and received into the Methodist Episcopal Church last February. He was prepared to die and the future held no terror for him. Quietly and peacefully his spirit passed to the God who gave him being there to meet the mother who so recently preceded him to the better world.
