He moved with his parents when a small boy to Osceola, Iowa. He was one of a family of eight children. His parents and two of the children preceded him to the Home Beyond. Harlan was born in Indiana August 20, 1833 and departed this life at Missouri Valley May 24, 1924, being 90 years, 9 months and 4 days old. He moved with his parents when a small boy to Osceola, Iowa. He was one of a family of eight children. His parents and two of the children preceded him to the Home Beyond. On May 3, 1855 he was united in marriage to Eliza J. Moore. To this union was born eight children. Isaac and Ellison died many years ago. Martha E. Jenkins died April 18, 1924 at the age of 60 years and he leaves to mourn his death: Z.B. Harlan, Villas, Colo.; Anna Shaline of Cleveland, Mo.; W.A. Harlan of Omaha, Neb.; S.B. Harlan of Mo Valley; and J.H. Harlan of Havelock, Neb, besides two brothers and two sisters, 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren survive. His wife died at Weeping Water, Neb. May 27th, 1900. He was converted to the Christian faith in young manhood and entered the ministry when about 25 years of age and continued in the ministry until about 80 years of age. When the call came, he died as he had lived, firmly, fearlessly, believing that God reigns in the affairs of men and of nations, calmly took his way to that House of the Great Beyond.
