Description	:	John Edward Rieke, son of Ernest and Sophia Rieke, was born October 21, 1867, at Barrington, Ill., and came with his parents, as a young man and settled on a farm west of Chester about 1885. On August 14, 1889, he was united in marriage to Ida O. Silker, a neighboring girl, who preceded him in death in 1936. He farmed for many years; and he lived in Chester for about 30 years. Read More	John Edward Rieke, son of Ernest and Sophia Rieke, was born October 21, 1867, at Barrington, Ill., and came with his parents, as a young man and settled on a farm west of Chester about 1885. On August 14, 1889, he was united in marriage to Ida O. Silker, a neighboring girl, who preceded him in death in 1936. He farmed for many years; and he lived in Chester for about 30 years. The last three years of his life he lived at Arlington, Nebraska. He had six children, two of whom died, Agnes Hess in 1937 and Ralph M. in 1954. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Robert Utterback, Arlington; Mrs. Ralph Barnes, Chester, Ervine, Chester; and George A. Republic, Kans. Also surviving him is one sister, Mrs. Jasper George of Edwardsville, Kansas, as well as 29 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 27, at the Chester Methodist Church, Dr. W.W. DeBolt officiating. Mrs. Howard Reed and Mrs. Melvin Crouse sang, accompanied by Mrs. Robert Weary. Pallbearers were Dale Barnes, Robert Barnes, Duane Rieke, Willard Rieke, Loren Rieke and David Newell. Interment was in the Chester cemetery (sic).
