He was married to Christina Roudebush on November 22, 1860 in Carroll County, Ohio. His obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, July 20, 1906. Joseph M. Talbott a well known citizen of Harlem Springs, died suddenly Sunday morning of heart disease. He lived but a few minutes after his condition had been discovered. He suffered a sunstroke in the army during the civil war and since then he has had a weak heart. The remains were interred Tuesday forenoon, friends meeting at the house at 10 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. Petty, who was assisted by the G. A. R. Post. Many attended from all round as deceased was some what of a public character and widely known. He was an undertaker, was a member of the county visiting committee, had served in several township offices, and lived in recent years to accommodate his friends. Deceased was born August 28, 1840; enlisted in the Union Army November 22, 1861, as a private in Co. D, 80th O.V.I. and participated in the following engagements; Siege of Corinth, April 30 to May 30, 1862; Farmington, May 9; Iuka, September 19 and 20; Corinth, October 4; Raymond, May 12, 1863; Jackson, May 14; Siege of Vicksburg, May 18 to July 4; Lockout Mountain, November 24; Mission Ridge, November 25; Atlanta Campaign, July 22 to September 12, 1864; Sherman's March to the Sea, November 15 to December 10, 1864. Honorably Discharged at Columbus, Ohio, December 20, 1864, by reason of expiration of term of enlistment. He leaves to mourn his loss, a widow and two sons, Alvin A. of East Palestine, and William S. of Cleveland; two brothers, Oliver of Missouri and M. C. of California; and four sisters, Mrs. John R. McClain of Harlem, Mrs. H. G. Cogsil of Kilgore, Mrs. R. A. Patterson of Carrollton and Mrs. James M. Telfer of Hibbetts. He was ever alert to the cry of the needy; quick to run on errands of mercy and to do for others at the sacrifice of safety. "A host shall rise up to call him blessed."
