Josephine was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Scranton and was previously a member of the Altar Society at Sacred Heart. Josephine married Forrest Gibbs at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka on June 2, 1956. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2003. Survivors include her children, Debra (William) Hortenstine of Carbondale, and Mark (Carol) Gibbs of Topeka, a sister, Esther Ryan of Santa Rosa, California, her grandchildren: Jennifer Fenton, Rebecca Walshire, William Hortenstine II, Nathan Gibbs, and Jason Gibbs, 5 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Josephine was preceded in death by her siblings, Jacob Urban, Frank Urban, Robert Urban, Rose Walters, Bertha Pfannenstiel, and Ida Swindell. Josephine will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Scranton. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka at 12:00 noon.Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Midland Care Hospice or to Angels At Home Care and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
