Morgan, 81, died at his home, 808 North 6th street, Hiawatha, late Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 1958. Mr. Morgan who had been in ill health for a long time, was critically ill for several months. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louisa K. Morgan, of the home, two daughters, Mrs. Carroll E. Swinney of High Point, N. C., and Mrs. Hozmer B. Wright of Orlando, Fla. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Mr. Morgan's sisters, Mrs. A. P. Hazell of Turon, Kans., Mrs. Lettie Morton of Hawthorne, Calif., and Mrs. J. P. Wilson of Hutchinson, Kans., a brother, Lewis N. Morgan of Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held from Meek's chapel at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, July 10, by the Rev. E. R. Talbot of Atchison. Morgan, oldest son of William Lewis and Martha Morgan, was born January 27, 1877, at Mineral Ridge, Ohio. He died at the home at 808 North Sixth street, Hiawatha, Kans., after a prolonged illness. During his early manhood he was an active member of the Bethel Baptist church. On February 7, 1927, he transferred his membership to the First Baptist church at Hiawatha. He was married January 1, 1905, to Nina Edna Hoyt. To them were born two daughters, Alyce Hoyt and Martha Elizabeth. Almost the entire life of Mr. Morgan was lived in the Hiawatha community, for he came to Brown county at 8 years of age where he made his home with his grandparents until his family moved here from Ohio. After his marriage he and his wife immediately established a home northeast of Hiawatha, later moving to the Morgan farm north of town where they lived for many years as an integral part of that rural community. It was in 1945 they retired and moved to the present home. His wife, Nina, died September 14, 1949. Later, on January 11, 1951, he was married to Mrs. Louisa K. Colley, whose constant devotion and tender care during the years of Mr. Morgan's long illness were a source of great comfort to the family. Mr. Morgan found his greatest joy and pleasure in his home. He liked people and appreciated the fellowship of friendly human associations, the small talk and homely interests of every day life. He was a man of sterling character, trustworthy, dependable, a man whose sincerity could be counted upon, one who was honored and respected in his community. Besides his devoted wife, Louisa, of the home, to mourn his passing, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Carroll Swinney of High Point, N. C., and Mrs. Hozmer Wright of Orlando, Fla. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Jack Morgan Swinney and Susanne Elizabeth Swinney, Nina Ruth and Barry Morgan Wright; three sisters, Mrs. Sadie Hazell of Turon, Kans., Mrs. Lettie Morton of Hawthorne, Calif., Mrs. Anna May Wilson of Hutchinson, Kans.; two brothers, Lewis N. and Ralph Eugene Morgan of Hiawatha, besides many relatives and a host of sorrowing friends. The memory of Mr. Morgan's life will always remain to those who knew him as a source of friendliness, helpfulness and happiness. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at Meek's chapel, Hiawatha, Kans., with the Reverend E. R. Talbot, pastor of the First Baptist church of Atchison, Kans., officiating. He used as his sermon theme, "The Guide on the Way," based on the 8th chapter of Ezra. Mrs. J. B. Powell sang two beautifully appropriate songs, "Sunrise Tomorrow" and "In the Garden," accompanied by Mrs. Robert Reynolds. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Nora McCoy, Mrs. Ralph Heatley and Mrs. Maude Barnes. Burial was at Mount Hope cemetery, Hiawatha. Three nephews and three cousins were body bearers: They were respectively, Harold Hazell, Bliss Hazell, Merle Bradshaw and George Morgan, Roy Morgan and L. C. Morgan. Out of town relatives present besides the immediate family were: Mr. Mrs. Perry Hazell, Mr. Mrs. Bliss Hazell of Turon, Kans.; Mr. Mrs. Merle Bradshaw and daughter, Sally, of Langdon, Kans.; Mr. Mrs. Harold Hazell, Arlington, Kans.; Mrs. Anna May Wilson of Hutchinson, Kans., Mr. Mrs. George Morgan and Roy Morgan of Effingham, Kans.; Mr. Mrs. Everett Colley, Mrs. Leonard Belvins, Mrs. Billy E. Colley, all of Highland, Kans.; Mr. Mrs. Morris Haggard, Karen and Barbara of St. Joseph, Mo.; Mr. Mrs. Lower Colley, Sr., and Mr. Mrs. Lower Colley, Jr., of Severance, Kans.; Mr. Mrs. Richard Meers and Clarence of Robinson. —The Hiawatha Daily World (Hiawatha, KS) Fri.
