George on September 4, 1890 in Carroll County, Ohio. Her obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, January 21, 1927. Mrs. William, aged 50, died at her home in Lee Township, Tuesday night, as a result of burns received when a lantern exploded in the house at about 10 o'clock that morning. She was alone in the house at the time, her husband having gone to the home of William Nivin, a neighbor, who is sick. It is not known exactly how the accident happened, but Mrs. George phoned the Nivin home for her husband to come home right away. Fearing something had happened, he phoned a nearer neighbor who reached the home first. She found Mrs. George on the floor with all her clothes burned off, and only partly conscious. She rallied and told of the lantern exploding, and that she had put it out. She lingered until nine o'clock that night when she died. Mrs. George was born in Lee Twp. and was a daughter of the late Martin George. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Turvey of Amsterdam; three sons, Wilbur, Lloyd and Homer George, of Carrollton; two brother, John George, of Carrollton; James C. George, of Lee Twp., and two sisters, Mrs. Jesse Stenger and Mrs. P. I. George, both of Lee Township. Her mother, who makes her home at Stenger's, also survives. The funeral services were held at the Harlem Presbyterian Church yesterday (Thursday) and were conducted by Rev. Yorke of Carrollton. Interment was made at Harlem. Her obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, January 20, 1927. Mrs. William George, living on Route 3, near Harlem Springs, received burns from which she died Tuesday evening when her clothing in some unknown manner became ignited while she was alone in her home Tuesday morning. Mr. George stated that he had carried a lantern into the house after completing the morning chores and after hanging it up had left to visit William Nivin, a neighbor, who is ill. He had been there but a short time when he received a telephone call from his wife asking him to return home and indicating there had been an accident. When the husband reached the house he found Mrs. George in bed evidently suffering intensely from the burns which covered almost her entire body. He quickly summoned neighbors, who noticed Dr. J. R. Williams. Although both the physician and Mr. George questioned her regarding the accident she was unable to state hoe it occurred. the lantern which Mr. George believes he extinguished before leaving for Nivin's farm was found outside the house intact, which shattered the theory at first held concerning an explosion. Mrs. George had evidently torn the burning clothes from her body, as fragments of her garments were found outside, where she had swept them. When neighbors first entered the home she told them to go into the next room, as the broom was on fire. The unfortunate woman died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday without giving a coherent account of the accident. Be yond a slight smoke sausage on the ceiling the house was not damaged by the blaze. Mrs. George was born March 30, 1870, in Harrison Township and was the daughter of Martin and Rebecca George. She married William George September 4, 1890, and bore him four children -- Lloyd, Homer, Lewis and Wilbur. In addition to the children she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Rebecca George; two brothers James of Geneva and John of Carrollton, an well as two sisters, Mrs. P. I. George and Mrs. J. T. Stenger of Carrollton. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Harlem Springs Presbyterian Church with Rev. B. J. Yorke in charge.
