He was born March 2, 1923, in Topeka the son of George and Anna (Jacob) Burghart. LeRoy lived in Topeka his entire life except while serving his country in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Burghart, 84, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Plaza West Care Center in Topeka. He was born March 2, 1923, in Topeka the son of George and Anna (Jacob) Burghart. LeRoy lived in Topeka his entire life except while serving his country in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he returned to Topeka and was married to Marie Gartner on Jan. 30, 1946. Marie preceded him in death in 1997. Mr. Burghart was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and American Legion Post #58. He worked as a machinist at the Santa Fe Shops from 1942-1974. Mr. Burghart is preceded in death by his wife Marie in 1997; two grandsons, four sisters and one brother. Survivors include two daughters, Rose Ann Blanton and Carolyn McMullen, both of Topeka; grandchildren, Shelly, Jimmy, Heather and Nicole and great-grandchildren, Ashton, Trevor and Kyler. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, February, 21, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial and military honors will be conducted at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the rosary from 7-8 p.m. He will lie in state from 11-9 Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home.
