Grau Louise Henriette, daughter of Karl Christian and Juliane Christine Horn, was born on February 22, 1869, at Floraville, Ill., and passed from life to greater life November 10, 1939, at her home in Glasco, Kans., at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 15 days. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith, February 27, 1869, by the Rev. T.H. Rooll of Floraville. When she was a week old her parents came with her to Kansas and settled on a farm near Glasco where they endured the hardships of pioneer life. She received her early education in the first stone school house. As a young girl she loved to watch the wild deer and the stage coach cross the prairie near her home. One of the important events of her girlhood was the building of the railroad thru this territory. She was confirmed April 17, 1881, in St. Paul's Lutheran church of Glasco of which her parents were charter members. On June 24, 1896, she was united in marriage with John Samuel Grau. While living on their farm near Asherville, they were faithful and devoted members of Zion's Lutheran church, Beloit, Kans. To this happy union were born two daughters, Elizabeth Malinda and Elma Ruth. In 1902 the family moved to Glasco where they have since resided. They were life long faithful and devoted members of St. Paul's Lutheran church, Glasco; always willing to serve their Master in all the organizations of the church. Mrs. Grau was a teacher in the Sunday school and a charter member of the Ladies Aid and its first president. In addition to being an active member in this organization, she was a faithful member of the Women's Missionary Society, Zions Lutheran church at Beloit. She believed in daily practice of her religion and the observance of Sunday as a day of rest and meditation. Her life interests were her church and her home, of which she was always the most loving and indulgent of mothers. One of her chief delights was to work among her plants and flowers. She was preceded to the Great Beyond by her beloved husband, father, mother and two brothers, Henry C. and Fredrick. She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters, Elizabeth and Elma; a sister, Mrs. Addielena Dimanowski; a brother, Otto Horn, all of Glasco and numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Glasco, conducted by Rev. Milton Englehardt assisted by Rev. George Eller of Beloit. The music was furnished by Misses Anna and Laura Olson, Mrs. Norman Wehl, Mr. Rudolph and Arlo Gruenthal.
