Description	:	On Monday evening, April 20, there assembled at the home of Mrs. Lydia Ray in Washington Township quite a host of relatives and friends. The occasion being the 90th anniversary of Mrs. Ray's birth. She was born in 1835 on the farm now owned by Lawrence Marshall in Washington Township in which township she still resides. The occasion being the 90th anniversary of Mrs. Ray's birth. She was born in 1835 on the farm now owned by Lawrence Marshall in Washington Township in which township she still resides. Her parents were the late Joshua and Mary Marshall. On January 18, 1853, she was united in marriage to Charles Ray who died in 1896 after having in the ranks of the union army during the Civil War. There were ten children born to this union: Thomas (deceased), Mary (deceased), Sarah, Matilda, Elmer (Deceased), Joshua, Mathias, Maggie (Deceased), Eva and Irwin. The living children and their descendants number over 100, there being five generations all living. Although 20 years past her allotted years of three score and ten, Mrs. Ray is still hale and hearty and quite active, being able not only to care for herself, but to assist with the housework as well. Carroll Chronicle 24 Apr 1925 Contributed by Richard P Culler ============================================================ Mrs. Lydia (Marshall) Ray, 94, oldest person in Washington Twp., died at her home near Mechanicstown on Thursday, August 29, from the infirmities of old age. She was a daughter of Joshua and Mary Marshall and was born April 20, 1835 in Washington Twp. On January 15, 1853 she was united in marriage to Charles Ray, who died October 28, 1896. To this union ten children were born, six of whom survive: Mrs. Sarah Baker, of Warren; Mrs. Melinda Cummings of Fox Twp.; Joshua Ray of Mechanicstown, Irwin Ray of Carrollton, and Eva and Mathias Ray of the home. Twenty-nine grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren survive. A sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Weir, of Pennsylvania, also survive. Mrs. Ray united with the Christian Church at Mt. Olivet early in life and remained a faithful member. Funeral services were held at Mt. Olivet Sunday afternoon with Rev. Stanley Johnson officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
