Description	:	Maren Christena Larsdatter was born on August 24, 1835, in Ølsted Sogn, Frederiksborg, Denmark, the only child of Lars and Ane Kirstine. Maren Larsen was the fourth of ten known children born to Lars Hansen and Ane Kirstine Jensdatter. When Maren was a small child, before 1840, her family moved to Bendstrup, a village in Alsønderup parish, about four miles northwest of central Hillerød. Her parents probably died in Bendstrup. Anders Larsen arrived before Maren with their sons. Shortly after they arrived about 1871 Anders died. She married Niels Christensen and they had three children together: Annie Dorothy Larson 1872 – 1958 Andrew A Larson 1874 – 1949 Henry Q Larson 1877 – 1957 When Maren remarried she had Niels take her name of Larsen because of her boys. Maren died on February 19, 1912, in Hazel Dell, Iowa, having lived a long life of 76 years. Ane Kirstine Larsens letter to her mother Karen Christensdatter in Denmark Feb 1912. Helle writes "Ane Kirstine was not very good to Danish and I am not very good to English. I hope you can understand the meaning. With the letter she send some of aunt Marens hair and ask her mother to give some of it to aunt Karen and aunt Stine (Birthe Kirstine). I thought it was strange, but now I understand." "I live in the town and aunt out in the country 12 miles from me. I traveled home the evening aunt were buried. I washed and decorate and laid aunt in the coffin. You can believe aunt were nice. She had a light blue silk plush coffin with silver handle, it was lined inside with white satin silk and white lace, it costed 175 dollars. There was 2 leased wagons, they cost 20 dollars, aunt have the leased white hearse it cost 50 dollars, there were flowers for 30 dollars. It was a large burial. We had 5 miles to go to the cemetery. Therefore we started so early and the leased wagons and the hearse came from Council Bluffs, where I am living and it is 12 miles. Aunt died of cancer of the stomach. She was ill in bed in 2 years. You may believe aunt suffered much, she struggled with death in 2 days, but was conscious to the last. There is no greetings to her siblings because she was tormented too much to think about it. I will never forget the sight Mother. Aunt has black damask (a rich patterned fabric) silk jersey, black damask skirt and black damask shoe and white lance in the collar, it is what we are dressing her in. I gave aunt a bouquet double yellow roses for 2 dollars. Dear mother you will now go to aunt Stine and tell her. Bring the hair of aunt Maren to Karen, I make it by the time I combed aunt when she died. You can share it with Karen and Stine. Get them to write to me. I wrote to Peer, we got a letter from him before aunt died. Aunt was so happy dear mother. We are all well and I hope you are too.
