Marguerite Smittle was born June 3, 1881 in Jefferson, the daughter of James and Eva Smittle. At an early age she moved with her family to a farm south of Grand Junction. She was educated in the Grand Junction schools and graduated in 1894. Later she attended Iowa State Teacher's college and Drake University, and taught in the Grand Junction schools under Principal A.J. Oblinger. She was married June 3, 1906 to Fred Morgan who preceded her in death in 1933. To this union three children were born: Truman J, of Grand Junction, Berdene Coe of San Diego, Calif, and Maralyn Lee of Lomita, Calif. She was a public spirited woman, having served on the Grand Junction school board and was a member of the Greene county hospital board. She was also affiliated with the Order of the Eastern Star. In passing, she leaves her family of three children and two grandchildren: Adrain Lee and Terry Coe. Also surviving are two brothers: Wm. J. Smittle of Portland, Ore, and H.A. Smittle of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dr. Jacob Smittle of Waucome preceded her in death.
