Stoutsville News, July 16. Mary Jane Valentine, nee McClary, daughter of Joshua and Barbara McClary, was born in Circleville, Ohio, July 29, 1827, and died at her home in Columbus, Ohio, July 10, 1908, aged 80 years, 11 months and 11 days. She spent the greater part of her life in Stoutsville, Ohio, a loved and honored woman. In early womanhood, she became a christian and remained a true, devoted wife and mother to the end. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical Association for nearly sixty years, and a willing worker wherever in God's vineyard she found anything to do. On August 30, 1854, she was married to John S. Valentine. This union was blessed with eight children, three of whom preceded their mother. She is survived by her husband, five children, fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Those hearts are sad on account of their loss, and yet rejoice at the happy and triumphant life of their dear one. The funeral service was held in the Evangelical Church at Stoutsville, on Monday, July 13, at 11 o'clock, by her pastor, Rev. John F. D. Schneider, of Columbus, assisted by Revs. G. W. Miesse and J. M. Wenrich. Interment in Maple Hill Cemetery." Funeral notice for Mary Jane McClary Valentine from the Circleville Union Herald of July, 1908: "Funeral of Mrs. Valentine. The funeral of Mrs. Mary Valentine, wife of John Valentine, who died at her home in Columbus Friday, July 10, was held at the Evangelical Church for over 60 years. Rev. Snyder, of Columbus, delivered the eulogy, and Rev. Miesse and Rev. Wenrich assisted in the services. The pallbearers were the sons and sons-in-law: W. F., James, Edward and Clark Valentine, Noah Stout and Christian Turkopp. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Christian Turkopp, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Stout and daughters, Gertrude and Bernice, Dr. Spatigan, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Valentine, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Valentine, Rev. Snyder, Herbert, Homer and Miss Leota Reed, Clark and John Valentine, Columbus, and Oliver Reed, Bellefontaine."
