John S. Valentine died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Noah Stout, in Columbus, Wednesday morning, February 9, at 7 o'clock, having been ill and confined to his room for three months. Mr. Valentine was 75 years of age, born in Fairfield County, the son of Jacob Valentine. He learned the trade of blacksmith, with the late Jacob Welter, in the old shop, corner of Pickaway and Main Streets, Circleville, and was employed in different shops here, until 1868, when he moved to Stoutsville, and opened a blacksmith shop, which he conducted until a few years ago, when he retired because of ill health. The deceased, August 20, 1854, married Miss Mary J. McClary, of Circleville, who died in June, 1908. Eight children were born to them, five of whom are now living: Mrs. Clara Stout, wife of Noah Stout, of Columbus, Ohio; William F. Valentine, of Circleville; Mrs. Alice Turkopp, J. P. Valentine and Edward Valentine, of Columbus. There are 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and he also leaves two brothers, Solomon S. Valentine, of near Leistville, and Jerry Valentine, of Thatcher. Mr. Valentine, while residing in Circleville, was a member of the Niagara Hose Company for 17 years, and in 1867-68, was on police force. The remains will be brought to the city, this (Friday) afternoon, and taken to the home of William F. Valentine. Funeral and burial at Stoutsville, tomorrow, at 10 o'clock a.m."
