This community was shocked Monday morning to learn that Mrs. John Shors, Sr. was dead. Sunday, Mrs. Shors had not been feeling well, but was able to be about the house, and about 2 o'clock Monday morning Mr. Shors got up and gave her a cup of hot water to drink and she did not at his time complain of feeling in a serious condition, Mr. Shors then lay down and was soon asleep and when awakened it was morning and he immediately got up and prepared a cup of coffee for Mrs. Shors, noticing when he left the room that she was apparently sleeping easy. After getting the fire to going good, he returned to the bedside to see if she had awakened, and taking hold of her hand discovered it was cold in death, life having passed out without a struggle, and as her heart had been causing trouble occasionally, this no doubt was the cause of death. Mr. Shors called the daughter Regina, and the neighbors were next apprised of the sudden death. Deceased is a native of Bohemia, aged 69 years and came to America, in 1864, making her home in Chicago, and in the following year was married to John Shors. They continued to reside in Chicago, until 1868 when they moved to Crown Point, Indiana, residing there two years when they moved back to Chicago, remaining there until 1874, when they moved to Chickasaw County, Iowa, making their home on a farm until 1879, when they returned to Chicago, making their home there until 1883, when they returned to Chickasaw county, and in 1890, came to Pocahontas County, locating on section 1, Lincoln township, and in 1902, moved into Pocahontas, where they have since resided, Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Shors, one died in early life. Those living are Mrs. Mike Sernett of Garfield township, Mrs. F. A. Sernett of Plover, Frank residing in Pocahontas, Joseph at Beemer, Nebraska, John and James on farms in section 1, Lincoln; Ed at Iowa City, and Miss Regina at the home of her father. The funeral was held Wednesday forenoon at 10 o'clock, in the Bohemian Catholic Church, services being conducted by Father Duda, and the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery.
