"Mrs. Regina Stone Struck By Auto on Highway Here" "Died in Ft. Dodge Hospital That Evening; Rites Held Tuesday" "Pocahontas county's fourth highway fatality of the year resulted from an accident which occurred on Highway No. 17 here Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Regina Stone, 65, long-time Pocahontas resident, died as a result of injuries received when she was struck by a car driven by Dale C. Chance, 63, of Redfield. Mrs. Stone, who was crossing the highway about 100 feet north of the Highway No. 3 intersection, was struck by the north-bound car on the east side of the road. She received two broken legs, a broken arm, fractured pelvis and suffered from shock, bruises and contusions. The accident occurred at 2:50 P.M. Mrs. Stone died in Mercy hospital at Ft. Dodge about 9:00 P.M. that evening. The 1951 Chevrolet involved in the fatal accident had a buckled right front fender and broken headlight. Highway patrolman Don Walker, who investigated the accident, said that ‘no charges would be filed against the driver of the vehicle.' ... Funeral services for Mrs. Stone were held Tuesday morning in SS. Peter and Paul's Catholic church. Rev. Fr. Henry Karhoff was celebrant of the requiem Mass. Pallbearers were: J.C. Sedlacek, Albert Sedlacek, Wesley Stoulil, Harry Malm, J. A. Hudek and Frank O'Brien. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Regina Shors was the daughter of John J. and Mary Shors. She was born Nov. 2, 1885, in Chickasaw county, Iowa and came to Pocahontas county with her parents when she was a child, where she has since resided. She was united in marriage with Sidney Stone in 1917 and to this union one daughter was born. Her husband died in 1930. Surviving, besides her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Lundberg of Marathon, is one granddaughter and three brothers, John C. and James E. Shors of this place and Edward Shors of Cedar Rapids."
