MAX COTTON, 72, FOUNDER OF COTTON ELECTRIC Funeral services were held Monday for Max V. Cotton, 72, of 4385 Van Jack Street, Harlem Springs, who died Friday in Timken Mercy Medical Center after a five-year illness. Cotton was born September 16, 1912 in Carrollton, a son of the late Ray F. and Ada "Van" (Bickel) Cotton, where he and his late father founded Cotton Electric in 1947 from which he retired in 1980. He was a former 10-year employee of the Republic Steel plant in Canton and was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. A longtime Masonic Lodge member and leader of various Masonic organizations, Cotton was a 38 year member of Carroll Masonic Lodge No. 124, having served as past worshipful master in 1951. He was also a member and past high priest of Minerva Chapter 123 Royal Arch Masons, past illustrious master of Loyalty Council No. 146 at Carrollton and Union Council at Steubenville. He was a past commander of Steubenville Commandery No. 11 and a member of Knight York Cross of Honor for over 25 years. He was a life member of Carroll Chapter 315 Order of Eastern Star and served as past worthy patron in 1961 and 1963. He was also a member of the Pelican Club for a number of years. Cotton was married September 3, 1935 to the former Mary Yeager, who survives, along with a son, Randy, of Amsterdam; three daughters, Mrs. Sylvio (Frances) Scopel of Amsterdam, Mrs. David (Barbara) Lumley and Mrs. Joseph (Betty) Russell, both of Carrollton; a sister, Janice Cotton of Harlem Springs, and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Terry, and a brother, Wayne Cotton. Funeral services were held Monday at the Allmon-Dugger Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Clarke Hogue III officiating. Burial was in Harlem Springs Cemetery.
