Description	:	Michael Rath was born in Franklin County, Penn., February 8, 1838. Came to Ohio about the year 1846 with his parents. December 8, 1861, he was married to Christena Shepmier. Six children, one daughter and five sons were born to them. One son, George M,. served in the Spanish American war, and died August 11, 1903. Mr. Rath enlisted in the Civil war April 23, 1861, in Co. D. 14th Reg't O.V.I. in the three months service, and was discharged at Toledo, O., and August 13, 1861. Afterwards re-enlisted in Co. E. 14th Reg't O.V.I. and received an honorable discharge... Read More	Michael Rath was born in Franklin County, Penn., February 8, 1838. Came to Ohio about the year 1846 with his parents. December 8, 1861, he was married to Christena Shepmier. Six children, one daughter and five sons were born to them. One son, George M,. served in the Spanish American war, and died August 11, 1903. Mr. Rath enlisted in the Civil war April 23, 1861, in Co. E. 14th Reg't O.V.I. and received an honorable discharge at Louisville, Ky., July 11, 1865. After the war he purchased a farm 3 miles west of Evansport, Ohio, and reared his family to manhood, then moved to Evansport, where he has since resided. He was a man of good judgment and being a great reader he kept himself posted in all the current events and could converse intelligently on almost any subject. We have noted that he had been in failing health for some time, but his real sickness only lasted about four weeks. He had many friends who will miss his pleasant countenance. He was a member of Joseph Rath post, Evansport, Ohio, until they abandoned the post at this place, then he went to Defiance, Ohio, and joined the post at that place. He departed this life Wednesday evening, January 15th, 1920, aged 81 years, 10 months, 4 days, and leaves to mourn, companion, one daughter, four sons, one sister, 19 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many friends. The funeral was held from the home Saturday, January 17, 1920, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. C. W. Jameson, the remains were laid to rest in the Evansport Cemetery.
