McMurtry was born on April 29, 1947, in Oakland, to Ernest McMurtry and Anna Mae Brokaw. He passed away on March 29, 2007, at the age of 59 years and 11 months, at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Mike lived his entire life in the Craig area, except when he was serving in the United States Army from August of 1966 until March of 1968, seeing action in Vietnam during that time. Mike received his education from the school in Craig. Mike worked for several area farmers, worked on road construction crews, drove truck, and retired from Avaya, formerly Western Electric. Mike was also a member of the Craig fire department for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lonnie, and niece, Angela. Survivors include his brothers, Daniel of Blair, Patrick of Boise, Idaho, Thomas of Mannford, Oklahoma, and Ernest of Oakland, and his sisters, Doris Merriman of Omaha and Mary Lee Livengood of Boise, Idaho. GAVESIDE MEMORIAL SERVICE: Monday, April 2, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at the Craig Cemetery, Craig, Nebraska.
