Combs, 96, Topeka, died Tuesday, March 27, 1990, at a Topeka hospital. Miss Combs was Shawnee County register of deeds from 1937 to 1942. She was recognized as the first retiree of Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Kansas in 1956. She was born Oct. 15, 1893, in Holton, the daughter of John L. and Tillie Boetcher Combs. She moved to Topeka in 1896. Miss Combs was a 50-year member of First Christian Church, Beulah Chapter No. 34 of Order of Eastern Star and Ancient Toltec Rite. She was a charter member of Capital Court No. 5 of Order of Amaranth. She was a member of the Berean Class at the church and Topeka Rescue Mission auxiliary. Survivors include three nieces, Dayle V. Hutton and Jo Ann Harries, both of Topeka, and Marcella Smith, Walnut Creek, Calif.; and four nephews, Wayne Combs, Vern Combs and Jack Connell, all of Topeka, and Walter S. Combs, Pueblo, Colo. Services at 2 p.m. Friday will be followed by Star services conducted by Beulah Chapter No. 34 at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Miss Combs will lie in state after 8 a.m. today at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 until 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, P.O.Box No. 1397, 66601.
