Truex, b.Aug 2, 1903, d.May 16, 2000" -the U.S. Social Security Death Index. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DEATHS Opal Marie Truex, 97, of Robinson, died Tuesday morning, May 16, 2000, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital, where she had been a patient for nearly two weeks. Previous to her admission to the hospital, she had been a resident of Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha for nearly 13 years. She was born Aug 7, 1902 [sic] near Hiawatha, the daughter of Miloe [sic] and Mabel Schrader Mauslein and had lived in the Brown County area all of her life. She grew up near Hiawatha and later graduated from high school with the class of 1924. Mrs. Truex was a member of the Robinson United Methodist church. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary to Hedrick-Moll Post#148, Robinson American Legion. Opal was united in marriage to Bryon E. Truex in 1930 at Lawrence. They operated a creamery, sold dressed chickens and operated a farm produce store near Robinson for many years. Byron was the sexton for Rose Hill Cemetery at Robinson, of which she assisted with these duties as well. For many years, she was the one that served the "Red Eye" at the Robinson Melodrama. Byron preceded her in death Sept. 5, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Lawrence Mauslein, L. G. "Shorty" Mauslein, and Dana "Bud" Mauslein. Survivors include two sisters, Mabel Schilling and Irene Grover, both of Hiawatha; a brother, Forrest Mauslein, Kearney, Neb., several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 12 noon, Wednesday, May 17. The family will greet friends one hour prior to funeral services on Thursday, May 18, 2 p.m., at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home. Pastor Charlie Neill will officiate.
