Description	:	Patricia M. Ostarello, 80, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born at the Castro family ranch in San Pablo in 1926, the youngest of six children of Percy and Rose Castro. A seventh generation Californian, Patricia was the descendent of Joaquin Ysidro Castro, a member of the Juan Bautista de Anza expedition of 1776 and Jose Castro, a Spanish Governor of California. Ostarello, 80, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born at the Castro family ranch in San Pablo in 1926, the youngest of six children of Percy and Rose Castro. A seventh generation Californian, Patricia was the descendent of Joaquin Ysidro Castro, a member of the Juan Bautista de Anza expedition of 1776 and Jose Castro, a Spanish Governor of California. As a child, she rode horseback with her family in the parade marking the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Presentation Academy in Berkeley and Heald's Business School in Oakland. She was married to John F. Ostarello, her loving husband of 57 years, who preceded her in death in 2004. They raised their children in Salinas, and later moved to Carmel where they spent the last 23 years. The mother of seven children, Pat treasured family gatherings, especially the holidays where her love of family was so evident. She enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, and shopping excursions to the Bay Area. She was a founding member of the Valley Guild, which restored the family home of John Steinbeck in 1974. Pat was the first manager of the Steinbeck House Restaurant, a long-time supporter of Notre Dame High School and Foundation, a member of the Northstar Homeowners Board in Tahoe, and a charter member of Corral de Tierra Country Club. She is survived by her sons, Roger (Margaret) and Russell (Janet) of Salinas; daughters Ticia of Danville, Marla (Marty) of Auburn, WA, Julie (Joe) and Lisa of Carmel; her 14 grandchildren, Damon, Giana, Brett, Katrina, Alicia, Joe, Ross, Mathew, Zachary, Paul Joseph, Claire, Caroline, Rebecca and Jessica; and her sister, Dorothy Murray of Livermore. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory. Visitation is scheduled on Sunday, December 3, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., both at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Carmel Mission, 3080 Rio Road in Carmel, CA with burial at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Salinas. Memorial contributions are suggested to Notre Dame High School, 455 Palma Drive, Salinas, CA 93901; or the Carmelite Monastery, 27601 Highway One, Carmel, CA 93923.
