The couple had two children, Darlene Louise and Daniel Leroy before later divorcing. He was later very briefly married to Jeanette Curtis, but the marriage also ended in divorce. Robert was a Marine, and fought in the Korean War. He went missing in action in South Korea on 5 June 1952 while attempting to rescue another soldier, and his body was found on 8 June 1952.
