Navy, has been assigned to duty with construction battalion No. 58, Headquarters Co., Port Hueneme, California. A former resident of Carrollton, he is a brother of Mrs. Frank H. Wagner and Miss Beryl Burrier. This was recorded in the Carroll Journal, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, May 27, 1943. Raymond W. Burrier of the U. S. Navy is now stationed with construction battalion on an island in the southwest Pacific. In a recent letter he gave an account of the Father Neptune ceremony observed upon their crossing the Equator on April 22, and also told of an interview he had with an island chieftain. The tribal head wore with great dignity an American-made white shirt, white shorts and sported a cane. No mention was made of the legendary black silk topper. Seabee Snares Big Fish, Deep sea fishing off the coast of New Zealand one day last month brought angler's fame to Raymond W. Burrier, storekeeper second class, U. S. Navy, formerly of Carrollton. He landed, after more than an hour's work, a striped marlin weighing 275 pounds, and the length--10 1/2 feet! It was the second largest caught in those waters this season, the record fish weighing 360 pounds. On a later trip Ray landed a 244lb. marlin. the sword fish club awarded him a certificate and added his name to its membership roll. Island newspapers gave publicity to the catch. Burrier, 86, of 2131 Applegrove, North Canton, died January 13 in San Diego, California following a sudden illness. Born June 21, 1904 in Harlem Springs, he had been a resident of the Canton area for over 60 years. He had been a manager of the tax department of the Hoover Company and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Carrollton. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nadine Lewis and Dorothy Wagner. Surviving are one sister, Beryl Burrier of Canton; one niece, Louise Factor of Barberton. No services or calling hours were held. Arrangements were handled by the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, Dennis.
