EDWARDS Robert Eugene "Bob" Edwards, son of Clifford and Eva Edwards, was born Nov. 16, 1919, in rural Lucas County, Iowa. He passed away June 15, 1999, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. On March 2, 1941, Robert was married to Vera Colver. Together, they raised four children. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Vera. On Dec. 28, 1991, he was married to Ruby Shanks of Derby. Robert was raised in southern Iowa. His later years brought him to Russell. Working on the farm and running the road grader for Lucas County was how Bob spent much of his time. He took pride in many of the roads that we drive on today. He also worked with many construction companies around the area. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Many days were spent fixing their cars and giving them advice. He spent much time watching each and every one of them with his arms crossed and chuckling all the way. Just two weeks ago, all the grandkids were reunited in almost five years. Once again, there he was, sitting on the deck, arms crossed, watching and chuckling all the way. Now, it's even better. Not only are there grandchildren but there are great-grandchildren. Many a day Bob and his neighbor, Dave sat under the tree discussing and solving all the problems of the world. Bob has always had a tremendous love for music and has enjoyed dancing pretty much all of his married life. He always called them his "happy feet." Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Mary Walker and husband Larry of Lampe, Mo., Sheryl Pierce of Chariton, and Donna Coady and husband Jim of Albia; son Rex Edwards and wife Mary of Scottsdale, Ariz; two brothers, Kenny and wife Shirley of Mountain Home, Ark., and Leo Edwards of Schertz, Texas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; step-children, Gene Shanks and wife Martha of Derby; Beverly Martin and husband Roy of Boone, Iowa, Shirley Shanks of Cincinnati, Ohio and Steve Shanks of Chariton; and six step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 1999, at the Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Prosser officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery. His grandsons, Jody Pierce, Jon Pierce, Jeff Pierce, Terry Coady and Mike Walker, along with his grandson-in-law, Tim Wilson, served as bearers.
