Ruth Esther Smith was born March 11 1905 in Williams, IA and departed this life on February 17 1983, in Colorado Springs, CO. She was the oldest of seven children born to Benjamin Milo and Ethel Janette (Mealio) Smith. The family came to Colorado in 1907 and settled on a homestead 11 miles southwest of Limon, where they helped settle the Pleasant Plains community. Esther was married to Mr Clarence Albert Pearson at her parent's home the evening of December 25 1922. There were four children born to this union. She was baptized at the Pleasant Plains Community Church as a young girl and rededicated her life as a Christian in Aurora, CO. After returning to Simla, CO in her later years, she associated with the Matheson Community Bible Church. Esther was a charter member of the Simla Rebekah Lodge #88, having joined during their formation in 1940. She was preceded in death by a brother, George Frederick Smith; a sister, Pauline Lucile Smith Ferree; her parents; her husband, Clarence Albert; and her oldest son, Clarence Benjamin Pearson. Those left to morn her passing were Mrs Clarence B Pearson, of Simla, CO, Ethel May Pearson Manuwal Lamm of Colorado Springs, CO, Albert Lee Pearson of Sterling, CO, and Robert Earl Pearson of Aurora, CO; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Rev Richard Bailey Smith of Limon, CO and Rev John Smith of Del City, OK; two sisters, Helen Elizabeth Smith Benner of Greeley, CO and Cordelia Janet Smith Tullis of Persall, TX; and many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Love Funeral Home of Limon handled the arrangements.
