Description	:	Samuel Baker was the son of Zachariah and Susanna (Washburn) Baker. Zachariah and Susanna had bought 50 acres of land in Brooke County, Virginia where their earliest children were born including Samuel in 1806. They sold that land in 1806 to moved to Jefferson County, Ohio, part of which later became Harrison County ) in 1811. Samuel Baker was a farmer. On October 28, 1830 he married Mary McCombs in Harrison County, Ohio. They had four daughters: Belinda, b. 1832; Margaret, b. 1836; Susanna, b. 1840; Emma Jane, b. 1849 and a son, Samuel Pittenger Baker, born in 1845. The Bakers were friends with the Pittenger family; both families have burial rows at the Bethel Cemetery, Harrison County, Ohio. Samuel Baker named his son Samuel Pittenger Baker and the namesake continued for three generations with the Samuel P. Bakers. Later they moved to Marshall County, Indiana where his wife Mary died in 1871. In July of 1879 he signed his will in Marshall County. He never remarried. Following signing his will in July, 1879, that same summer he returned to visit a daughter in Harrison County where he became ill and died. His death certificate states his occupation as millwright and that his death was the result of gangrene. He died in Stock Township, Harrison County, Ohio at age 75. OBITUARY "Died - Mr. S.P. Baker, Sen., an aged and much respected citizen of the north-east part of Center To., on the 30th ult. at the residence of his daughter, in Ohio, whither he had went on a visit during the summer, but was soon taken sick and the foregoing is a result."
