Kloss, formerly of Churdan, who has been making his home with his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kloss, at Jefferson was found dead in his bed early Monday morning. When he did not come down to breakfast his little niece Betty, was sent to awaken him, and not being able to arouse him, Mrs. Kloss went to his room and found the lifeless body still in the arms of death. It is believed that the spirit tooks its' flight about midnight. Mr. Kloss had not been enjoying the best of health for several months, but was able to be about his work all the time. He visited with friends in Churdan Sunday and complained of not feeling very good, believing he had an attack of indegestion. He retired Sunday night at the usual time, feeling no worse than he had during the day. Life of William L. Kloss. William L. Kloss, son of Philip and Elizabeth Kloss, was born in Dawson township, Greene county, Iowa on January 19, 1888, and passed away in Jefferson, April 12, 1937, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kloss. He was educated in the rural schools and after reaching manhood engaged in the livery and stock buying business with his brother-in-law, R.C. Toliver, of Churdan. Bill served with the navy during the World War and was overseas for six months. In 1919 following the Armistice he was given an honorable discharge from the navy and returned to Churdan to reside with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Toliver. He was engaged in farming for a few years. From 1929 to 1932 he lived with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kloss in Churdan and five years ago when they came to Jefferson he moved here also to reside with them. For the past few years he has been employed off and on at the Carey and Hamilton sale pavilion. He was a member of the Floyd Brown Post No. 11 of the American Legion and prior to coming to Jefferson he was a member of Churdan Post No. 198. His mother passed away in 1909 and the father in 1931. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Charles Conant, who died March 15, 1934, Sarah Kloss who passed away in young womanhood, and an infant sister. Bills is survived by three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. R.C. Toliver of Churdan; Mrs. L.M. Farley of Glidden; Mrs. Theodore Hagenbaugh of Wanamie, Pennsylvania; Harry of Churdan and Albert of Jefferson. Sixteen nieces and nephews besides other relatives and many friends also survive. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Bill was a real pal to little Betty Jean Kloss and all the children in the neighborhood called him “Uncle Bill”. He was a loyal citizen of the community in which he lived, interested always in the higher and finer things of life. His character was above reproach, his manner quiet and unassuming. His judgment was exceptionally keen in matters of business and his dealings on the square. Everybody who knew Bill liked him because he proved himself a true friend. Stockmen of the county will miss him as well as his many relatives.
