Body Returned for Burial From Pennsylvania. "Funeral rites for Phil Kloss, former Greene county resident who died Sunday in Pennsylvania, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Slininger funeral home. The Rev. C.L. Haering of the Friends church in Dawson township was in charge, being assisted by the Rev. Wm. Stevenson of Jefferson. Burial was in the Paton cemetery. "Mr. Kloss was a resident of Greene county for many years. He farmed in the northern part of the county for a long time and spent seven years as steward of the county home. After the death of his wife in 1912 he went to Pennsylvania. When relatives here were advised of his recent illness a son, William, and a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Farley, of Lanesboro, hurried to his bedside, arriving there the day before he died. They accompanied the remains back to Greene county, reaching Jefferson Wednesday morning. "Was 79 Years Old. Philip H. Kloss was born in Summit Hill, Pennsylvania, March 2, 1852, and passed away November 1, 1931, at the home of his daughter, Gladys Hagenbaugh, in Wanamie, Pa. His daughter had tenderly cared for him for the last four years at which time he had suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. He was 79 years of age. "On June 21, 1873, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hauze at Upper Lehigh, Pa. In the year 1876 they came to Greene county, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Dawson township. Later they moved to a farm in Paton township, where they resided until the spring of 1897 when they moved to the Greene County Home. Mr. Kloss and his good wife had charge of this home seven years. At the end of that time they moved to a farm near Churdan, where his wife passed away August 13, 1909. In 1912 he went to Wanamie, Pennsylvania, where he resided until the time of his death. "In young manhood Mr. Kloss united with the Friends church in Dawson township. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Jefferson and of the Masonic lodge in Churdan. "Seven Children Survive. Two daughters preceded him in death, an infant daughter, Adelia, in 1878, and Sara in 1886. The children surviving are: Mrs. C.A. Conant, Harry, William and Albert of Churdan, Mrs. R.C. Toliver of Paton, Mrs. Lewis Farley of Lanesboro, and Mrs. Gladys Hagenbaugh of Wanamie, Pa. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and two brothers, Frank of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Joel, who resides in California."
