Description	:	Willie King Versaw, son of Frederick F. and Minnie (Cook) Versaw was born September 22, 1895 at Cook, Nebraska and passed away June 19, 1983 at his home in Franklin, Nebraska having attained the age of 87 years, eight months and 28 days. Willie moved with his family to a farm north of Bloomington in 1900. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1913, taught at District 75 east of Macon for one year and graduated from the University of Agriculture. Read More	Willie King Versaw, son of Frederick F. and Minnie (Cook) Versaw was born September 22, 1895 at Cook, Nebraska and passed away June 19, 1983 at his home in Franklin, Nebraska having attained the age of 87 years, eight months and 28 days. Willie moved with his family to a farm north of Bloomington in 1900. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1913, taught at District 75 east of Macon for one year and graduated from the University of Agriculture. Willie entered the military service in early 1918 and served with the Signal Corp in Connecticut. He was a member of the Veterans of World War I, and the American Legion Post 209. His lifetime occupation was farming which he enjoyed very much. Willie was active in the practice of soil conservation and received many awards for his efforts. He served as a 4-H leader and as a member of the township board and school board for many years. Willie was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church for over 75 years. He taught Sunday School, served on several church boards, and was the church's financial secretary until his health failed. He also served on the REA board for 35 years. On June 24, 1926, Willie was united in marriage to Lois Martin. To this union five children were born. They made their home on a farm northwest of Franklin where they resided for 45 years. They later retired and moved to Franklin. After his retirement, Willie enjoyed woodworking, caring for his yard and garden, and researching the family history. He was instrumental in publishing the Versaw history in 1971.Willie leaves to mourn his wife, Lois; one son, Keith of Franklin; Helen Arnold of Trumbull; Norma Steinkruger of Franklin; Dixie Siemsen of Fairfield; and Elaine Forgey of Springview; two brothers, Paul of Lincoln and Earl of Center, Colorado; two sisters, Mary Jensby of Davenport, and Marian Thompson of Bayfield, Colorado; 23 grandchildren and nine great grand-children and a host of other relatives and friends.
