Memorial services were 11 a.m. Monday at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. Burial was in Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Brown, 95, of Holstein passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein, Iowa. Memorial services were 11 a.m. Monday at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. Burial was in Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Winifred Madell (Bracy) Brown was born on Sept. 26, 1914, in Spencer, Iowa, to Frank and Ella May Bracy. She attended high school and college in Vermillion, S.D. She taught school in Iowa until her marriage to George W. Brown Sr. in October of 1936. To this union, three children were born, George Jr., Robert and Elaine. They farmed in the Holly Springs area and in 1942, moved to the Mapleton, Iowa area and farmed for C.G. Whiting. In 1952, they moved to Holstein. Survivors include her children, George and Phyllis Brown, Robert and Geri Brown and Elaine and Wendell Rolfs, all of Holstein; eight grandchildren, Mike Brown and friend, Tricia, Kenyon and Amanda Brown, Jason Brown, Jim and Jennifer Brown, Randall Rolfs, Susan and Mike Richard, Carter Rolfs, Jan and Shane Wiese; and 12 great-grandchildren, Haley, Kelsey and Cali Brown, Shaylee and Kiera Brown, Bailey and Caiden Brown, Logan and Kara Richard, Katlyn, Kael and Kenna Wiese; and other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters; and one half-brother.
