Simmons, aged about 76, died at his home in Lee Township, Saturday, of Bright's disease. The funeral was held at Kilgore, Monday, the services being in charge of Rev. Wooley of Harlem, assisted by the Harlem Springs G. A. R. Deceased was a Civil War veteran, being a member of Co. A, 186th Regiment, O. V. The funeral was held at Kilgore, Monday, the services being in charge of Rev. Wooley of Harlem, assisted by the Harlem Springs G. A. R. Deceased was a Civil War veteran, being a member of Co. A, 186th Regiment, O. V. I., and participated in all the movements of his regiment during the war. With the passing of Mr. Simmons only five survivors of 61 are left in Lee Township to answer the final roll call. Mr. Simmons was twice married. He was married in 1871 to Mary R. Talbott, who died two years later, and in 1883 to Ellen Hosterman, who, with five sons, William E. of Carrollton, Fred and Bert of Lee Township, Jesse and Earl at home, and one daughter, Mrs. Oscar Shepherd, survive him. Mr. Simmons was a good citizen, quiet, inoffensive and home-loving in his disposition. The community realizes that they have lost a good neighbor, a Christian, and a good citizen. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
