Description	:	Clarence Andersen, 80 of Hayes, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at his home. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Congregational United Church of Christ, with burial to follow at the Sansarc Cemetery near Hayes. Clarence Duane Andersen was born on Dec. 15, 1925 at Alta, Buena Vista, Iowa. Clarence was the third child of Niels Christian Andersen and Anna Rovik Andersen. He joined an older brother Just J. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Congregational United Church of Christ, with burial to follow at the Sansarc Cemetery near Hayes. Clarence Duane Andersen was born on Dec. 15, 1925 at Alta, Buena Vista, Iowa. Clarence was the third child of Niels Christian Andersen and Anna Rovik Andersen. He joined an older brother Just J. Andersen, and an older sister Myrtle M. Andersen. Two years later another sister Pearl L. Andersen joined the family. Clarence enjoyed a carefree childhood on the family farm. The Andersen's moved to South Dakota in the 1930's after a cholera epidemic destroyed their hog farm. The Andersen's lived in various locations in Stanley County before purchasing the current ranch. Clarence loved working the land and caring for his animals. This lead to studying agriculture at the Agricultural College in Brookings. Clarence enlisted in the Marine Corps when World War II broke out, he served his country in the South Pacific. He was very patriotic and served his country with pride. When the war was over Clarence attended mechanics school in Nashville, Tenn. He met Dorothy Smith whom he later married. They joined N.C. and Anna on the family ranch shortly after their marriage. Four children were born to this union: Donna Marie, Carol Ann, Ramona Lee, and Thomas Christian (Chris). Clarence enjoyed community activities but his main focus was his family. Clarence was raised in the Lutheran Church, but joined the Southern Baptist Church in the late 1960's. He is survived by his children: Donna and Jim Glover, South Dakota; Carol and Dale Martin, Texas; Ramona and Wayne Holt, Minnesota and Chris Andersen, Missouri; his grandchildren: Cheryl and John Somersall, California, Carrie Castell, South Dakota, Carin Glover and Aaron Kietzmann, South Dakota, Eric Martin, Texas, Heath and Catherine Harding, South Dakota, Dustin and Nicki Holt, Minnesota, Courtney Holt, Minnesota, Marti Andersen, Tennessee, Peyton Andersen, Tennessee and his great grandchildren: Wyatt Somersall, Allie, Beth and JR Casteel, Slate Kietzmann, Trevor and Dylan Kasma, Hailey Harding and Connor and Carter Holt.
