Mr. Bowman passed away Dec. 4 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 5 days. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Versa on July 19, 1966, and one sister. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. William (Clarene) Bote and one son, William Bowman, both of Coon Rapids, and three grandchildren: Molly Bote, Beverly and Reid Bowman. Coon Rapids Enterprise December 12, 1974 Page 4 Clarence W. Bowman was born June 29, 1895 to William and Adren Jameson Bowman. His boyhood home was on a Greene County farm northeast of Coon Rapids. For several years he farmed in partnership with his father. In 1918 he entered the armed forces in the service of his country. His tour of duty included France in the Argonne Forest region. Following his discharge from the Army, he resumed farming until 1920. At that time, he and a cousin, Shelby Bowman, began operating a grocery-meat market. They were in business for 19 years; Clarence then returned to farming. On November 2, 1921, he was united in marriage to Versa M. Miller, in Coon Rapids. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Clarene Adren and William Dean. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and the American Legion. One of his greatest pleasures was participating in the Legion sponsored drum and bugle corps. Other community activities included serving on the Town Council, and the local school board. On July 19, 1966, he was deeply saddened by the sudden passing of his beloved wife. But until ill health interfered, he continued pursuit of two life-long interests: fishing and gardening; and he maintained an active interest in the family farm. Several months ago, he entered the Greene County Medical Center, where he entered into eternal rest on December 4. He had attained the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a sister, Mrs. Ethyl Remele. He leaves to cherish his memories, children Clarene and William Bote and William and Elaine Bowman; grandchildren, Reid and Beverly Bowman and Molly Bote; other relatives and many friends.
