Read More	OBITUARY AND ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ABOUT DAVE KENNEDY OBITUARY: David Theodore Kennedy, son of David Ernest and Arminta Jane Kennedy, was born in 1905 in Kansas and left us June 28, 1968, at the age of 63 years, 3 months and 23 days. On August 24, 1933, he was married to Alma Rea Rogers and to this union three children were born: Tommy Ross, Jane Alice, and Irma Vivian. He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy, his parents, and four brothers. He watched with pride, his two daughters grow up and graduate from grade school and high school and go out in the adult world. From the time he was a young boy, he start out playing "cow-pasture" baseball. As he grew older and fonder or baseball, he played with town teams around this area. During his long and outstanding baseball career, he played with and against most every town in Jewell County and surrounding counties. After arthritis benched him, there came a new joy and fulfillment with the birth of four little grandsons. His many friends will long remember his willingness to lend a helping hand where needed. His passing came as a shock to his family and friends, although he had been in poor health the past few months. Those who will miss him most are his wife, Alma; his daughters, Jane and Irma; the four little grandsons; four brothers, Charles, Byron, Kenneth and Morris; four sisters, Georgia Obert, Frances Obert, Jessie Muck, Vivian Ost; other relatives and friends. Memorial services were held at the Kramer Funeral Home in Mankato Wednesday morning, July 3 at 10 a m., the Rev. Enyeart officiating. Burial was in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Esbon. Casket bearers were Randall Thompson, Charles Thompson, Pat Smith, Carl Sapp, Kenneth Johanek and LaVern Haegert. ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: When Dave was five years old, he fell off a corncrib on the family farm and landed on some rocks that broke his hip. That accident left him with a significant limp for the rest of his life. He attended the one-room Lone Tree School near the family farm through the 8th grade. He started high school in Esbon, but the coach of the football team would not let him play because of his hip. Dave did not want to go to high school if he could not play sports, so he dropped out. He worked for the railroad for 22 years but had to quit in the 1940s due to arthritis in his hip. He received a pension from the railroad and did some hauling with his pickup. He was known as a slugger when playing baseball and said he needed to hit home runs because he could not run bases well with his hip. He usually played catcher because it required little running. He lived in Esbon, Kansas or the vicinity of Esbon his entire adult life.
