Smith, 32 years old son of Mrs. James Riley and the late Frank Smith of Amsterdam, died Monday, June 12, following a motorcycle accident near Scio Ohio Pottery, where he had been employed as a mechanic for the past three years. Survivors include his widow, Dorothy (Beckley) Smith, his mother and six month-old daughter, Helen; one brother, Edgar, of the armed forces in Sardinia; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Barlow of Harlem, Mrs. Dorothy Ryan of Wintersville, and Mrs. Alice Reigle of Kilgore. Services will be held Thursday at the Lutheran Church at Kilgore, where deceased was a member, with Rev. E. O. Graham of Jewett, officiating. Burial will be at Kilgore with Arbaugh parlors in charge. His obituary in the Carroll Journal, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, June 15, 1944. William Donald Smith, 32, of near Kilgore, was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident near Scio at 11:15 p.m. Monday. An employee of the Scio Pottery, the young man was enroute home when the machine overturned on the road a short distance from the plant. He died from a skull fracture while being taken to Dennison hospital. Mr. Smith was born at Amsterdam on December 17, 1911, and was a member of Carrollton Trinity Lutheran Church. He had been a mechanic at the pottery for the past three years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy (Beckley) Smith; a daughter, Helen age six months; his mother, Mrs. James Riley of Harlem Springs; a brother, Edgar serving with the army in Sardinia, and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Barlow of Harlem Springs, Mrs. Dorothy Ryan of Wintersville and Mrs. Alice Reigle of Kilgore. His father, Frank Smith, preceded him in death in 1921. Services will be held this afternoon in Kilgore Lutheran church with Rev. E. O. Graham of Jewett officiating. Burial will be in Kilgore Cemetery with the Arbaugh parlors in charge.
