He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-45. On Aug. 16, 1955, he married Leota Jane Hattan. They lived in Imperial. In 1966 they moved to Nelson. He was a farmer and rancher and worked at the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center near Clay Center. He also was superintendent of weed control in Nuckolls County for 10 years. He was a member of Nelson Community United Church of Christ, VFW and American Legion, all of Nelson. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Sheri Sloane of Kearney and Kriss Farver of Omaha; two sons, Scott and Curtis Dean, both of Nelson; one brother, Oliver "Pete" of Nelson; two sisters, Opal Stahl and Margaret Reed, both of Nelson; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Memorials may be given to the family.
