Description	:	SALEM - Ethel M. Gamble, 97, of Salem passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, at her home. Born to Clifton and Anna Pickett Hall on March 24, 1911, in Winona, she was a lifetime resident of the Winona and Salem areas. She was a graduate of Olney Friends School where she later served on a number of committees as a lifelong member of the Winona Friends Meeting and the Ohio Yearly Meeting at Barnesville. Gamble, 97, of Salem passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, at her home. Born to Clifton and Anna Pickett Hall on March 24, 1911, in Winona, she was a lifetime resident of the Winona and Salem areas. She was a graduate of Olney Friends School where she later served on a number of committees as a lifelong member of the Winona Friends Meeting and the Ohio Yearly Meeting at Barnesville. Ethel worked in many homes as a mother's helper prior to her marriage to Albert L. Gamble on June 25, 1938. Her passion for her family, birds, cooking, flowers, gardening and perserving food, sharing the bounty with others, playing board games and working the family dairy and fruit farm was shared with Albert during their 62 years of marriage. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, as well. Ethel formerly volunteered with the Winona Fire Department Auxiliary and as a demonstrator for the Extension Service and was a past member of the Country Garden Club, Church Women United, the Farm Bureau and Alliance and Salem Ostomy support groups. Ethel is survived by four children, Lola J. (Douglas) Toot of Canfield, Lynden M. (Mary Lou) of Salem, Gerald A. (Andrea) of Apex, N.C. James C. (Anne) of Auburn, Calif., and a daughter-in-law, Luanna Gamble of South Euclid. Grandchildren are Thomas Gable of Leetonia, Julie (Paul) Richter of Bahama, N.C., Paul Gamble of Cocoa, Fla., Alecia (Carl) Johnson of Apex, N.C., and Charles Gamble of Raleigh, N.C. Stepgrandchildren are David (Valerie) Katz of Shaker Heights, Joshua Katz (Rich Ruggeri) of Fairview Park, Ryan Owens of North Hollywood, Calif., and Nicola (Martin) ten Dam of Gent, Belgium. Great-grandchildren are Jennifer, Benjamin, Justin and Jaimilyn and stepgreat-grandchildren, Zoe and Breena. A special sister-in-law, Hazel Hall of West Milton, also survives, as well as generations of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and her caregiver and friend, Janet Ford. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Albert, in July of 2000; her son, Jonathan, in July of 2007; a sister, Luella (Leland) Thomas, and brother, Lewis Hall. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Winona Friends Meeting House on Winona Road. Burial will be at the Winona Friends Graveyard.
