Jay Frank Shepherd, 86, of Carroll Court Apartments died Sunday in the Carroll Healthcare Center following a lengthy illness. He was born November 21, 1900 in Salineville, a son of the late Herbert and Georgianna (Allmon) Shepherd. He was a retired farmer and member of Harsh Memorial United Methodist Church at Harlem Springs, Carrollton Lions Club and the Carroll County Historical Society. Survivors include two sons, Dean and Ray, both of Amsterdam; two daughters, Mrs. Tony (Audrey) Kapelewski and Mrs. Earl (Marian) Abel, both of Carrollton; a brother, Burdette of Scio; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Martha) George of Harlem Springs and Mrs. Basil (Helen) Newbold of Mechanicstown; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle (White) Shepherd, who died in 1973, a brother and a sister. Funeral services were held this Wednesday at the Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Cetorelli and Rev. Vernon Shepherd officiating. Burial was in Harlem Springs Cemetery. His favorite charity was the American Heart Association.
