Monday previously went to the Eli Duhling home to cry a public sale, apparently in usual health, but before the hour of the sale of arrived, became quite weak and was brought home and Dr. Wolfe called. While Mr. Bowman soon regained his strength somewhat and thus felt his condition was not serious, Dr. Wolfe. Though otherwise as there appeared to be a clogged valve or blood vessel of the heart, and Wednesday afternoon called Dr. Jewell in consultation. Mr. Bowman, however, moved about the house much of the time and visited with callers in his usual social way, saying there was no use for a well man to stay in bed. But Saturday afternoon he became suddenly worse and expired. The deceased was an active citizen. He took considerable interest in local affairs, being town councilman two terms and of a social nature belong to the Masonic and other fraternal societies holding various offices in all of them. The deceased was of Swiss parents who came to this country in the sixties first locating in Pennsylvania, later at Muscatine, Iowa, 1879 in Carroll County. However, George was born in this country as were the four or five next younger brothers, Samuel, Jacob, Rudie, John and (John Jake) as nicknamed being born in Switzerland. Jacob and John were Civil War veterans. Col. Bowman was in his teens when he came to Carroll County. He worked at day jobs, a part of the time for his brother Samuel for several years. After a time he bought a 40 in Greene County afterward adding 40 which farm he owned until his death, is being worked by his son Charles. Rev. W. F. Clayburg conducted the funeral Monday afternoon at the M.E. Church preaching a very appropriate sermon. The Masonic order had charge of the remains which were interred in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. The following is a brief obituary furnished by the relatives: George Bowman was born in Muscatine County, Iowa, October 25th, 1861 and departed this life December 17th, 1927. He was the youngest of a family of nine children of which three are living Henry and William of Coon Rapids and John at Muscatine. When a boy of sixteen he came to Carroll County with his brother, Samuel Bowman. He was united in marriage to Hattie L. Hall October 4th, 1882 who preceded him in death four years ago. After marriage he lived in Carroll County about three years when he moved on to his farm in Greene County where he lived till the spring of 1913 when he and his wife retired and moved to Coon Rapids. He was a man of sterling qualities and took great interest in the community in which he lived, being a member of the council two terms and also a member of the Odd Fellows, Woodmen and Masonic orders and all of what he took an active part, holding various offices in each. He followed the profession of auctioneer for many years. He leaves five children, Mrs. Myrtle Dailey of Letcher South Dakota, Mrs. Sadie Hollenbeck of McAllen, Texas and Mrs. Carrie Thomas, Ralph and Charles of Coon Rapids, and 14 grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends to mourn his sudden death
