Helen was born February 10, 1925, in Topeka, the daughter of Winfred Henry and Lena Hefner Cromwell. On October 1, 1947, Helen and Leonard Meier were united in marriage in St. Joseph Church, enjoying 60 years together until his death November 28, 2007. Helen was born February 10, 1925, in Topeka, the daughter of Winfred Henry and Lena Hefner Cromwell. On October 1, 1947, Helen and Leonard Meier were united in marriage in St. Joseph Church, enjoying 60 years together until his death November 28, 2007. She attended St. Joseph Grade School and in 1947 graduated from Capital Catholic High School (Hayden Catholic High School). Helen was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church and member of the Altar Society She worked nearly ten years at Santa Fe Railroad. She was co-owner of J.C. Meier and Sons Fruit and Vegetable Market. For over 50 years she would meet and greet customers, many of whom became dear friends. Helen was a powerful and positive influence on the hundreds of young people who worked there over the years. Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Rick Meier (Renae), Ron Meier (Ann), Jerry Meier, and Greg Meier; daughters-in-law, Sandy Meier and Wendy Meier; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Pete and Robert Meier; sister-in-law, Doris Meier; and many nieces and nephews. Helen was also preceded in death by her son, Lenny Meier and brother, Harold Cromwell. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, with a parish rosary prayed at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Church Restoration Fund or to St. Judes Hospital, sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
