Helen Cromwell and Leonard Meier were married Oct. 14, 1947, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Topeka. The couple were part owners of J.C. Meier & Sons all of their married lives. Mr. Meier and his two brothers retired from the farm in the spring of 2001. Mrs. Meier is semi-retired and works for her son at Meier's Market. Their five sons and their wives are Lenny Jr. and Sandy Meier, Rick and Renae Meier, Ron and Ann Meier, Jerry and Wendy Meier, and Greg Meier, all of Topeka. The couple have 11 grandchildren, Lenny Meier III, Steven Meier, Robin Tyner, Becky Stone, Jerry Ely, Heath Meier, Sabrina Meier, Jenny Meier, Erica Meier, Miranda Meier and Haley Meier. They have five great-grandchildren, Britney Stone, Ian Stone, Cooper Stone, Sydney Tyner and Keagan Lipps. Topeka Capital-Journal, 10/13/2002 ------------------- Leonard G. Meier Sr., 82, Topeka, died Wed., Nov. 28, 2007, at his home. Mr. Meier was born June 7, 1925 to Joseph and Elizabeth Lambrecht Meier. He graduated from Capital Catholic High in 1942 and served in the Merchant Marine from 1943 to 45 after which he returned to farming with his Dad and brothers, Peter and Raymond at J. C. Meier and Sons until 2000. He married Helen Cromwell Oct. 14, 1947. They had five boys, Lenny (Sandy), Rick (Renae), Ron (Ann), Jerry (Wendy) and Greg. He has eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. Leonard is also survived by siblings, Lucille Krische, Peter, Raymond and Robert Meier. He was preceded in death by brothers, Casper, Joseph, Sylvester, Hubert and Augie Meier and a sister, Marie Weigel. Leonard was a life member of St. Joseph Church and its Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2608 and the James W. Gibbons Topeka Assembly No. 286 Fourth Degree, American Society of Germans from Russia, Moose Lodge, life member of the American Legion Post 400, President of the Kansas Vegetable Growers and a member of the Board of Agriculture at Kansas State University. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
