Description	:	Henry A. Brandes, after a short illness, died at his home at Moscow Mills, Friday, April 25, 1902, at 7:30 p.m., aged 79 years, 15 days. The funeral services were held at his late home and also at M.E. Church at Wentzville, conducted by Rev. E. L. Rutledge of O’Fallon. The remains, accompanied by many sorrowing relatives and friends, were then taking to the city cemetery and laid to rest beside his beloved wife, who preceded him to the grave about eight years. He leaves six daughters and two sons to mourn his loss. The deceased was born at Vallstedt Germany, April 10, 1826. He was a member of the German Lutheran Church. He came to America in 1847, and a few years later settled in St. Charles county near the old Daniel Boone place. In 1851 he was married to Miss Marie Louise Meyer, a daughter of Carl W. Meyer, who had settled in that vicinity in 1833. Mr. and Mrs. Brandes removed to a farm five miles southeast of Wentzville in 1857, from which Mr. Brandes retired last fall and located at Moscow Mills. God in his wisdom has called another worthy citizen and loving father to his reward in heaven. His devotion to his children was beautiful to behold. His was a long, useful and noble life. His honesty, uprightness and kindness of heart were admired by all who knew him. He was conscious to his last moments, and calmly and peacefully pointing heavenward, passed to his final rest.
