Glasco Sun July 15, 1926 page 1: Isabelle Butler was born October 7, 1880 near Glasco, Kansas and passed away at her home in Chicago on Thursday, July 8, 1926 following an illness of several months duration. She received her early schooling in the little country school house near the Butler country home, District 45, and following her completion of the grades she attended Concordia High School from which she graduated in 1902. Isabelle, like other members of her family, was interested in teaching and she chose it as her life's work and had devoted nearly a quarter of a century of her life to the fitting of young men and young women to meet the problems of life. She taught three years in the country schools, following her graduation, then for several years was a member of the faculty of the Jamestown High School, and then went to Chicago where she taught continuously up to the past school term, with the exception of one half year when she was home on a leave of absence and taught in the Glasco schools. Belle, as she was affectionately called by those who knew her best, was beloved by all, and her friendly disposition made and held friends for her, wherever her work called her. She had a purpose in life and though she was called home at the conclusion of one of her most successful years of work, at the very height of her usefulness, we cannot but feel that she layed down her burdens with no misgivings as to the fulfillment of her ambition, or regrets for a life well spent in self sacrificing to be of service to the many young lives with whom she has come in contact throughout the years of her work. The deceased is survived by her mother, Mrs. Pierce E. Butler, three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Walter Davis of Glasco; Mrs. Frederick Menard of Chicago; Miss Katherine of Glasco; Mr. T. John Butler of San Francisco and Mr. Eugene Butler of Chicago; a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church Saturday morning, requiem mass was sung by the Rev. Father McGrath, and interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
